RUD uses IoT sensors to determine the optimum time to perform maintenance on its conveyor belts
The market leader for high-performance chains and industrial conveyor technology is now able to plan when maintenance staff and replacement parts are required.
“With the Telekom IoT solution, we are positioning ourselves as an innovator and are creating clear added value for our customers.”
Klaus Pfaffeneder, Head of Conveyors and Drives at RUD Ketten
Challenge
RUD products are used in extreme conditions and locations, such as for ash removal in coal-fired power plants. Until now, users had to rely on their instinct when deciding on the right time to maintain and replace the chains. Status checks were performed via a simple traffic light system directly on the production line, for example.
Solution
Within the scope of the IoT solution, conveyor systems were equipped with IoT devices. Using GSM, the measurement values recorded by the installed sensors are encrypted and transmitted to the secure Cloud of Things back end at Deutsche Telekom. RUD customers can access their system data via a dashboard and can view analyses and status reports at the touch of a button.
Customer benefit
Both RUD and its customers now have data on the total running time, average and current loads, as well as chain wear. As a result, systems are now only maintained when they need to be. And RUD can now deploy its maintenance staff and order replacement parts as they are needed.
