Ensure that all of your devices are reliably connected
In remote areas it can be a challenge to connect stationary devices to the mobile network and ensure seamless data streams. Hybrid cellular/satellite connectivity enables full availability with guaranteed data rates, hence use cases with critical infrastructure can be implemented.
Reach all of your assets around the globe – onshore and offshore
Terrestrial networks have their limits. Connecting assets in different countries sometimes requires complex contracts. And what about the oceans, covering 70% of the earth's surface? Hybrid cellular/satellite connectivity can give you coverage everywhere.
Handle all your connectivity needs with one contract on one platform
Different use cases have different communication requirements for data volume, data rate, latency and availability. Having to manage different contracts and integrating different systems adds complexity. Our one-stop offer provides an all-you-need service with one integrated dashboard and API set for all your IoT applications.
Combine satellite and cellular connectivity in one single device
Today, satellite connectivity requires specific, proprietary terminals. But if you also need a cellular connection, two separate devices consume space and increase costs. Going forward, integrated 5G radio modules (3GPP Rel. 17+) can seamlessly switch between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
Our mobile network is robust but does not reach every corner of the globe. A satellite connection ensures connectivity anywhere – even in remote regions or on the open sea – and offers:
Satellite connectivity ensures dependable communication where other networks fail.
We are the first provider to offer convergent IoT connectivity products combining satellite and mobile networks, all managed via a single platform. This allows you to benefit from affordable mobile rates and comprehensive satellite coverage – all from a single source.
Our satellite solutions are designed for use cases that demand maximum network coverage or high reliability:
Generally, there are GEO, MEO, and LEO satellites:
Our current products are based on GEO satellites. In the future, we plan to integrate additional satellite operators, constellations, and satellite types.
Our IoT Business LPWA Satellite offering is 5G-ready (NB-IoT). The 5G technology for non-terrestrial networks (NR-NTN) to enable higher data rates is not yet available.
Deutsche Telekom collaborates with leading satellite partners (Intelsat, Skylo, Viasat, OQ Technology, Sateliot) and does not operate its own satellite fleet.
IoT Satellite Connect is currently available for businesses in Germany and provides coverage across much of Europe and many other regions worldwide. IoT Business LPWA, a SIM-based roaming solution, is available in Europe and numerous other countries.
For IoT Satellite Connect, a Telekom SIM card is required for the mobile router. IoT Business LPWA is a SIM-based solution that enables roaming in both terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks.
