3 steps to an IoT use case

Challenge

In day-to-day emergency services, paper-based documentation and verbal reporting chains – from the control centre or the fire service, via the emergency vehicle, to the hospital – take time and are prone to errors. With incomplete information, hospitals can only prepare for emergencies to a limited extent. medDV was looking for a suitable mobile, digital and robust solution for use in the field.

Solution

medDV has developed a robust field tablet with an integrated mount for emergency vehicles. The software receives operational data digitally from the control centre, records vital signs, ECG readings and treatment measures directly at the patient’s side, and transmits all information in advance to the destination hospital. More than 600 hospitals across Germany are connected to the system. Deutsche Telekom’s roaming IoT SIM cards automatically connect to the strongest available mobile network, thereby ensuring fail-safe data transmission, even in regions with poor network coverage.

Customer benefits

Digital pre-registration saves crucial time: hospitals can make targeted preparations and, for example, keep the cardiac catheterisation laboratory or CT scanner free. The patient bypasses A&E and goes straight to treatment – a time saving of up to 30 minutes, which can save lives in an emergency. Ambulance services benefit from comprehensive digital documentation. Data analysis shows how many call-outs there have been, which emergencies occur most frequently and where there is a need for training.
