Flaschenpost delivers drinks in record time thanks to the Deutsche Telekom IT infrastructure

Drinks delivery service Flaschenpost has to react quickly to changes in demand – and computing power from the Microsoft Azure Cloud and a fibre optic connection between the headquarters and the company warehouses make this possible.

We collaborated with Deutsche Telekom to roll out a new IT infrastructure that enables Flaschenpost to flexibly react to the latest market developments and new customer demands.

Aron Spohr, Chief Technical Officer, Flaschenpost

Challenge

Challenge

Order drinks online and have them delivered within 120 minutes – this is Flaschenpost’s business model. However, under high loads, the in-house server capacities at the data centre often reached their limits. The drivers’ handheld devices were also difficult to configure and the wearables could not reliably connect to the networks in the warehouses.

Solution

Solution

The headquarters and warehouses are now connected to the internet via a fibre optic connection with a speed of 50 Mbit/s. Flaschenpost has been able to establish a partner network with the support of Deutsche Telekom. Employees work together efficiently via Microsoft Teams and the handheld devices are equipped with SIM cards to aid quick picking and flexible route planning.

Server capacities in the cloud simply grow with the company. Order peaks are now no longer a challenge for IT and the headquarters and warehouses have a stable internet connection. The handheld devices help staff pick ordered goods quickly and reliably and assign the drivers with the quickest route to the customer.

RASTAL is revolutionising the catering sector with digital glasses

RASTAL SMARTGLASS® automatically informs the bar which drinks are currently in high demand amongst the guests. Accordingly, the barkeeper always knows how much of what drink needs to be restocked.

Our area of expertise is developing and refining glasses. We need a partner like Deutsche Telekom to provide their digital expertise.

Challenge

Challenge

There is huge competition in the catering and beverage industries. Guests and customers expect more diversity and a unique appearance. Restaurant owners and barkeepers must optimise their processes and increase service quality to strengthen customer loyalty. However, this requires knowledge of what the guests are drinking and how much.

Solution

Special glasses are equipped with a small chip, which communicates with a reader at the Smartbar via NFC technology (Near-Field Communication). The Smartbar itself is connected to the Telekom “Cloud of Things” via a mobile network. All data is stored here and is processed in a clear manner for the barkeeper.

If multiple bars are in place, such as in large discos or at festivals or sporting events, the data can significantly simplify logistics. It can be used to plan when additional service staff are required, while it can also be linked to other information, such as weather data, which would help determine popular drinks on sunny or cold days.

The RASTAL Smartglass offers digital added value for guests, restaurateurs and beverage manufacturer.

Hoffmann + Krippner help breweries make their production more efficient

The manufacturer of innovative data entry systems and touchscreens is developing a digital beermat, which will provide breweries with detailed insights as to what beer drinkers consume.

Breweries can now control their production in a more targeted manner, determine preferences amongst beer drinkers and improve their services for drinks retailers and restaurateurs.

Ralf Krippner, Managing Director at Hoffmann + Krippner GmbH

Challenge

Challenge

The HK Group was looking for a universal IoT mobile solution to connect its products without the customer needing to perform complex installation and configuration tasks. Amongst other ideas, subsidiary ROBIOTIC GmbH wanted to develop an intelligent beermat that works anywhere.

Solution

The “smart coaster” is equipped with a SIM card and a film sensor that records the weight of a glass, enabling the fill level to be determined. The data is sent to the IoT cloud using the NB IoT mobile standard. There, it is processed and made available to beverage manufacturers and restaurateurs.

Customer benefits

The manufacturers now receive precise information on the consumption of their beverages. This allows them to analyse whether special promotions or advertising measures are working. Customers do not have to install anything on site, as the devices automatically connect to the mobile network – also abroad – and are immediately ready for use. A true plug-and-play solution.
