Challenge

The waste management specialists REMONDIS and Rhenus – both part of the RETHMANN group – were faced with the same challenge: They could only guess how full their glass recycling containers and confidential waste bins were. For the recycled glass, this led to unnecessary collection trips, and in the case of the confidential waste bins, high administrative costs.

Solution

REMONDIS and Rhenus equipped the containers with affordable IoT fill level meters developed with the help of Telekom. These measure the fill level by laser and report via NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) when a bin is ready for collection. An online portal clearly visualizes the data.

Customer benefit

REMONDIS and Rhenus have an overview of the position and fill level of all containers at all times via the cloud portal. This means that the collection cycle can be adapted to the actual requirements and resources are conserved. Thanks to the energy-efficient technology, the battery-powered radio modules operate maintenance-free for several years.
