The suitable network technology for every project
Track the locations of vehicles such as trucks, cars, ships, buses, or trains to plan your logistics, optimize routes, and reduce consumption. Fleet management helps making the best possible use of all resources and services, as well as identifying and fixing problems at an early stage.
Your benefits:
Optimization of delivery routes
More stable supply chain
Avoid unnecessary fuel consumption
Transparency about the location of goods
Trackers are attached to tools, construction materials, machines, and containers for goods, which automatically broadcast their location. This allows you to maintain control over your operating resources and to react quickly in the event of malfunctions.
Your benefits:
- Precise location tracking for optimal machine and equipment management
- Theft warning system via geofencing
- Pay-per-use models thanks to real-time monitoring
Goods are often lost, spoiled, or damaged during transport. The solution: connected trackers. These signal when a delivery leaves its planned position after departure, when an unexpected shock occurs, or when the temperature inside the delivery container changes.
Your benefits:
Higher delivery reliability
Fast damage assessment for the insurance company
Reduced losses due to spoilage and consequential damage
Proof of cold chain compliance and product integrity
Around the globe, companies are networking their physical products to create smart connected products.
New: With our Dormant Connectivity, this has never been easier! Thanks to our reasonable module prices, you can equip your products with connectivity ex works and activate the connection as soon as your business model requires it. This is how we open up all the possibilities of servitization for you.
Your benefits:
Better understanding of customer needs through usage data.
Opportunity for a proactive service that solves problems before failures can occur
Digital value-added services that differentiate products from competitors' offers
New, digital business models and revenue streams
Smart meters measure the use of electricity, gas, water, or heat and send this data to the utility company via mobile communications. Tenants and owners can thus identify electricity wasters. Utilities can use the data to optimize the utilization of power plants and the feed-in of electricity from renewable energies.
Your benefits:
- More efficient utilization of power plants
- Better integration of renewables in the power mix
- More accurate energy bills
For autonomous cars, machines, robots, and drones to navigate safely, precise positioning is indispensable. An accuracy between 3 to 15 meters, as achieved by typical GPS systems, is not enough. Precise Positioning from Deutsche Telekom and Swift Navigation give an accurate position of up to ten centimeters.
Your benefits:
Scalable for an unlimited number of autonomous vehicles
Designed for the most demanding vital applications.

When implementing international IoT projects, the biggest challenge for companies is managing the large number of required national connectivity providers.
Imagine many thousands of networked IoT devices moving across the globe. To stay connected to these, companies need to negotiate different contracts with numerous network operators in many countries and regions, each with their own technical infrastructure.
To manage the connections of these devices, companies are forced to use different platforms that cannot communicate with each other. And if issues are to arise, they are reliant on different customer care and support teams in the various regions, each with different service level agreements.
Also, when it comes to paying for these services, each operator has its own payment model. This makes it difficult for companies to scale globally effectively.
To overcome these challenges, Deutsche Telekom has created T IoT, a solution that radically simplifies global IoT connectivity for businesses.
T IoT is a joint service from T-Mobile US and Deutsche Telekom. Through their own mobile networks and roaming agreements, the two companies can provide you with network connectivity in 188 locations and on 383 networks worldwide. T IoT covers the full range of network technologies, including NB-IoT, LTE-M, LTE, 5G, and Satellite IoT Technology.
The mobile technologies 2G, 4G/LTE, 5G, LTE-M and Narrowband IoT have large differences in data rates, latency, building penetration and battery life. To ensure the success of your project, you need to ask yourself which of these characteristics is most important for your application.
In general, high frequency wireless technologies such as 5G or 4G/LTE offer high bandwidths and low delays, but require high power consumption, have limited range and can have difficulty penetrating buildings. Low frequency technologies such as Narrowband IoT and LTE-M, on the other hand, have low energy consumption, long range and good building penetration, but are not suitable for transmitting large amounts of data due to their limited bandwidth.
For global projects, there is the additional aspect of network coverage. The mobile communication standards 4G, LTE, LTE-M and NB-IoT are all based on the very well-developed LTE network infrastructure worldwide. They are therefore available in more countries than the newer 5G technology. If, on the other hand, you need seamless global network coverage for your project, even at sea and in remote regions, satellite communication would be an option for you.
Our IoT team will be happy to advise you and help you find the right radio network for your needs.
Global IoT projects can include many thousands of mobile-connected devices. With such a large number of connections, keeping track of SIM card usage and billing can become a challenge.
That's why we provide you with suitable tools to make this task easy. The T IoT Hub, for example, is a connector and translator for IoT systems. It allows you to view and manage connection and usage data in a single interface across multiple platforms, including T-Mobile Control Center and Deutsche Telekom's M2M Service Portal. Find out more about the T IoT Hub here.
Some use cases require IoT connectivity in places where mobile connectivity via NB-IoT, LTE-M, 4G or 5G is not possible – for example, tracking containers on cargo ships or monitoring wind power plants in remote regions.
Deutsche Telekom is closing this gap with satellite communication, which will complement the classic terrestrial IoT networks in the future. To this end, we are working together with the satellite specialists Intelsat and Skylo.
Regulators in countries like Brazil, China, India and Turkey prohibit devices managed by foreign operators from being dialed into local mobile networks for extended periods of time via roaming connections.
The reasoning behind this is to protect the local market or to allow law enforcement agencies to collect connection data. In the worst-case scenario, this can mean that international customers have their IoT devices blocked or that they are forced to pay high surcharges.
We offer several ways to get global connectivity in these countries too. One is through a feature built into SIMs called Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC). This allows you to wirelessly load a SIM profile adapted to local regulations into the SIM of your IoT devices. The device then behaves like a native device in the network of the local mobile network partner.
Another way to comply with local regulations are Regional Packet Gateways. These are local gateways that forward international data roaming traffic locally instead of sending it back to the original home network. This is also a non-roaming connectivity option.
Yes. Our unique global SIM profile is ideal for international IoT projects. Depending on your needs, local SIM profiles can also be provided to meet regulatory conditions in target countries. Use our contact form to approach us with any questions – we will be happy to provide you with the details at any time.
Critical use cases such as autonomous driving or remote operations require data transmissions with very low delays, also called latencies.
However, the usual method of routing transcontinental data roaming traffic is to send it back to the end user's home network – even if it is on the other side of the world. This can result in delays of around 300-500 milliseconds for a data packet to travel from the end-user device to the home network and back again.
Our Regional Packet Gateway service solves this problem. It forwards the traffic to the nearest of our globally positioned gateways instead of back to the user’s home country. We have installed these local gateways at strategic locations around the globe to significantly improve the performance of international connections.
We are happy to advise you on how to ensure the best performance for your connections – simply contact us via the contact form.
Highly regulated markets do not permit the permanent use of roaming with a SIM card. Due to these regulations, companies often have to rely on regional network operators, which can involve challenges such as language barriers or complex billing processes. Additionally, this approach complicates SIM management, as the SIM cards are not represented on a central platform. Our solution for these markets is to utilize local connectivity solutions and provision local SIM card profiles.
Transatlantic network means that Deutsche Telekom operates its own network infrastructures on both sides of the Atlantic (Europe and North America). On both continents, Telekom IoT customers can use Deutsche Telekom's mobile network without roaming costs. This not only makes it easier to choose a mobile tariff but also ensures a high quality of service. Our customers also benefit from the high-security standards that we adhere to in all our mobile networks.
